Granting

Our granting portal will open in early February.  All registered users of the site will be notified by email when you may begin the application process.  Please visit aljfoundation.smapply.io to begin the application process or to register for an account if you do not already have one.

Thank you for your interest!

The Foundation uses an on-line grant application process. We do not accept emailed or hard-copy applications or letters of inquiry.

To apply for a grant from the Foundation, you must follow these steps:

  1. Register for an account by visiting: aljfoundation.smapply.io. The registration link will be located at the top of that page. You are strongly encouraged to set up an organization account that will allow multiple members of your organization to collaborate on your application.  Please see the SmApply FAQ for Managing your Organization.
  2. Organizations that have not been awarded a grant in the past three years are required to complete an Initial Inquiry stage of the application process.  The Initial Inquiry stage of the application does not have a specific due date, but be aware that our review of the inquiry may take up to two weeks.
  3. When you have submitted in the initial inquiry stage we will review the information and determine if the request is well-enough aligned with our funding priorities to warrant a full application.

Approval to apply is not an indication that your request will ultimately be funded. Granting decisions are made after the application deadline. Our grant review is competitive. Only a minority of requests are funded.
  4. Once you have received approval, return to the site to complete and submit the full application prior to the deadline.
  5. We will make our final granting decisions and notify applicants by email early in the 4th quarter.

All applicants are strongly encouraged to review:

We have tried to make this process straightforward for our applicants.  Nonetheless, if that does not suffice, please do not hesitate to ask us for assistance.
